Ware & Kay Raise Money For The Homeless By Sleeping Out

10 July 2018 Written by Ware & Kay Solicitors Category: Firm updates

A team of 13 volunteers representing Ware & Kay Solicitors (with offices in York, Wetherby & Malton) raised £1,500 for homeless organisation Kitchen for Everyone York by sleeping out.

Kitchen for Everyone York was originally set up in November 2015 to fill a gap in services providing food for the homeless, vulnerable and socially excluded from York. With over 100 volunteers this charity has now grown to include 2 sessions providing meals and an outreach programme when teams hand out hot drinks and snacks to people on the streets. This small non-profit organisation relies solely on volunteers and donations.

Helen Rawling, Team Leader commented "The facilities at the Spurriergate centre provide a safe, warm environment twice weekly to not only receive a meal but any other essential items such as sleeping bags and toiletries along with signposting to other service providers. In addition with the support of various local supermarkets and sole traders who donate food close to sell by dates we are enabling those in residences to become independent and self-sufficient whilst also providing food to those out in the community on low incomes.

We are extremely grateful to Ware & Kay for supporting us by doing their sleep out and offer our heartfelt thanks for all the donations received to help us continue with the work we do".

Holly Stevens Residential Property Solicitor at Ware & Kay, who took part in the sleep-out, said: "Whilst the challenge was cold this is nothing compared to what it's like for people who do it every night. Events like this are important to raise much needed funds but also to highlight the struggle some people have in our very own community. Every little really does help and I am really proud of the team."
